The Knox County Cotton Pickin Quilt Show and
Cookin Show is an annual event hosted by Goree Going
for Greatness and the Munday Chamber of Commerce.
The quilt show displays the handiwork of area quilters
and over 100 quilts are viewed each year with a best of
show awarded by votes cast by the public.
“The Knox County Quilt Guild is the backbone of the
quilt show and this event could not happen without the
work of these ladies throughout the year,” said GlennaDecker.
“Visitors come from all over Texas and
Oklahoma each year to participate in the quilt
show.”
This is the third year for the cooking portion of the
show. It is being expanded each year. “The competition
portion of the cooking show this year will be
fruit pies,” Decker said. “It is overseen by Lorrie
Coop, CEA-FCS. Also, Lorrie will be doing a
cooking presentation on Dinner Tonight and will
demonstrate preparing a main dish, vegetable and
dessert.”
This is an all-volunteer project, according to
Decker. “People from the whole county volunteer
their time to make this show happen each year,”
Decker continued. “Ladies, mostly from Munday
and Goree, graciously volunteer to make the various
dishes needed to provide the meal each year, which
consists of chicken spaghetti, frozen fruit salad
and three layered desert. Those dishes, along with
salad and rolls which are donated by different businesses
are the long standing traditional quilt show
meal.”
A large variety of vendors will be present offering
their merchandise. Anything from children’s
toys and books to fabric, patterns and cooking
utensils will be available. The quilt show and
cooking show runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with lunch
being served from 11 a.m.– 1 p.m.
The event is held at the Knox Prairie Events
Center (old Goree School Bldg.)
