In Loving Memory

DORSE DEAN BLANKENSHIP

Dorse Dean Blankenship, age 78, of Olney, Texas, died Friday, December 11, 2009, in Olney. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 14, 2009, at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. David Carpenter, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in the Goree Cemetery under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home.

Mr. Blankenship was born April 18, 1931 in Sunset, Texas to the late Porter and Ina (McGregor) Blankenship. He graduated from Goree High School in 1949. He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 and was assigned to the 351st infantry unit in Triest, Italy. He and Mary Joyce Jones were married November 8, 1957 in Seymour, Texas. She preceded him in death on October 28, 2001. Dorse was a farmer in Baylor and Knox counties for 30 years. He moved to Olney from Seymour, Texas in 1979 and worked for Olney ISD in the maintenance department for 13 years. He was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and the Olney Masonic Lodge No. 790 A.F. and A.M. He served as a worthy patron of the Eastern Star and was a past commander of the V.F.W. Post 3906.

Dorse was preceded in death by one daughter, Joy Elaine Moore, on December 26, 2005. Survivors include one daughter, Tina White and husband Brian of Fort Worth, Texas; son-in-law, Ben Moore of San Antonio, Texas; one brother, Bobby Blankenship of Goree, Texas; one sister, Bertha Mae Wright and husband, Wesley, of Midland, Texas; and one granddaughter, Brandi Moore Allen, and husband Forrest of Seattle, Washington.
