Come see us...

Goree is a quaint, quiet town with easy access to the lake, guided hunting/fishing, hunting lodges, RVing, camping and extremely affordable real estate for your very own hunting headquarters. Finally, Goree has the last stop for bait, beverages and snacks before heading to the lake, Millers Creek Reservoir.

Marketing Our Town

At the town hall meeting, I signed up for the committee on economic development. This blog is an early phase of marketing for our town. It is preliminary and my goal is a full blown website. This blog is the ‘free’ (I might add) stomping grounds for ideas that are on the drawing board. For obvious reasons, our town must become marketable before we dare push in the direction of inviting economy to choose us for a homestead, business or even the gateway to the lake.

Our goals are simple…clean up our town, clean up our town, clean up our town. Vickie Huffman would like these goals met by October ’07 for homecoming. And I’m sure there are some goals that will be accomplished. Although realistically, this is a long term project and this weekend’s clean-up event was a great start.

Where do we go from here? Without funds we are limited, but we are deeply concerned about the appearance of our town from the newly constructed highway and elbow grease will have to go a long way. Next, we plan to tidy up the main streets with, once again, good ole’ hard work, a dozer and a maybe a match. We are aware that the deck is stacked against us, but nothing is impossible with our God. Wish us luck!

Thank you Tammie for this update. I hope the city wide cleanup was a huge success. Robert and I will be in Munday most of August, so hope to see everyone then.

I have a million stories about the way Goree used to be. I actually saw Tommy for the first time at the old skating rink. I know all the exes up until about 1969 or so have stories and probably some of them have pictures. I'm sure I did in some of Mother's old pictures, but many of those have been pretty well scattered.

The letter was a suggestion by ex-Goreeite Jeanette Ansley on the day of the bake sale to possibly bring in some more revenue for repairs and cleanup.

Love,
Joyce

I left Goree in '52.

Think that Trudy and T.J opened the grocery store about that time or a little later.

Let me know if you ever expand your business to the Texas Gulf coast.

Thanks

Does this lady have the history of Goree that I sent to you that was given to me by Wynelle Hellums?

Hi Wanda,

The Tammie on the blog is wife of Kent Trainham. They have an ice making business in the old Trainham Grocery in Goree. Kent is son of T. J. and Trudy Trainham that ran the grocery store for years. You might remember, the grocery store is across the street from where the Skating Rink used to be. Trudy is still living in Goree. I think Tammie would like the history of Goree by Wynelle Hellums if you could send it to her. Tammie & Kent Trainham email: iceman@srcaccess.net

I applaud the people living in Goree too. There is only a few living there that have any history with Goree now and most of them are older. I know the cemetery will always be there.

I understood that you all were to get a Wal-Mart and motel out by the bypass. That should help some to keep Haskell from dying out.

See ya,

Keith
