Census...

In 2000 only 57% of Goree residents responded to the census. The 2010 website is www.census.gov/2010census where one can find out 'why' the census is so very important. One benefit is ranking for grants.

In Loving Memory~John 'Perk' Hudson

John Perry “Perk” Hudson 81,
passed away March 14th, Satur-
day, 2009. He was born August
11,1927 in Hefner, Texas to Jerry
and Roberta Bailey Hudson. He
attended Goree Schools.

Perk served in the United States
Army during World War II, and a
retired truck driver.

He is survived by his wife Fern
Van Dyke Hudson of Fairfield; sons
-Bill and Kim Hudson of Sadler,
Texas and Ken and Stephanie Van
Dyke of Nacogdoches; daughters
-Anita Rae and Bill Jacobs of
Lake Dallas, Michell Van Dyke of
Longview, Bobbie and Bob Gandy
of Grandview, Vickie Denman
Cox of Grandview and Laurie and
David Gipe of Sugar Land, Texas;
sister -Eva Marie (Sue) Baker of
Whitehouse; 7 grandchildren and
3 great grandchildren.

Visitation was held Monday,
March 16th at Griffin-Roughton
Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00
p.m.

Funeral services were held
Tuesday, March 17th at Griffin-
Roughton Funeral Home, Fair-
field at 10:00 a.m., with Rev.
Ward Hudson officiating. Intern-
ment was held at the Old Hall
Cemetery at Lewisville, Texas.

Guess who Remelle brought to town yesterday??

Carol Pirie, Deputy Director, of the Texas Film Commission with the Governors' office. She was the guest speaker at Seymour's chamber banquet. And once again, Remelle Ferrar is pulling for our hometown. When Remelle heard her spill at the banquet about empty schools, jails, banks and hospitals being a hot commodity in the film industry, she jumped at the chance to bring Ms. Pirie to Goree. We have three out of the four!

On our way home from church, Kent and I spotted Remelle's car straddling Goree's downtown intersection. We had the opportunity of a lifetime...touring with Ms. Pirie in Goree, Texas. She loved it, we loved it. What timing! We need to become a certified city and position our town for the possibility of a future opportunity in film.

Texas Plum Line Fundraiser

We, the GGG, ordered a good assortment of Texas Plum Line products to sale as a fundraiser and had our first opportunity this past Saturday at the Knox Prairie Quilt Show in Munday, Texas. Several ladies took a shift to watch our booth. We sold about two thirds of the merchandise and, as a matter of fact, sold smooth out of the jam. Some people had already heard of Connie's plum line and were return customers.

A big thank you to Nola Denton, Joyce Greenwood, Vickie Huffman and Madison, and lastly, Sheila Urbanczyk and Kaylan. You all are awesome!

It's buzzing in town...

I saw surveyors at the site of the 'new' post office. Stakes were set, so maybe ground will be broken soon and the new post office will become a reality. The City has already received lease payments, which helps in the overall budget.

Work on the water tower is in progress. An inspection awhile back showed that the interior surface needed repainting. Sandblasters began work over the weekend and the town water pressure was effected.

We, the Trainham's, had scheduled a company out of Oklahoma to sandblast the brick of the bank building. But, since this team was already here working on the tower they did two jobs instead of one. The Trainham's hired them for the job on the bank, as well. And it is looking awesome. Lastly, the hardware store is cleaned out and ready for a loading dock for the ice company. Good changes, for sure.
